About Ravenna Ohio
The city of Ravenna was founded in 1799 by Benjamin Tappan, who came there to lay a stake to the land purchased in this father's name. Tapping wasn't in the area for long, but he did build some log cabins before returning to Connecticut during the summer of 1800. Later, he returned that year with his wife, who suggested he name the town after Ravenna, Italy. Nancy became the driving force behind the city when plans were announced to form Portage Count, and it was Nancy's suggestion that Ravenna be made into a county seat. Since the 1970s, Ravenna has hosted the Ravenna Balloon A-Fair, attracting hot air balloon enthusiasts to the Sunbeau Valley Farm. A parade and live entertainment are also provided.
