The biggest difference between a classic Jeep and a 4xe model is the powertrain. As a PHEV, the 4xes have a plug-in hybrid powertrain that incorporates electric motors alongside the gas-powered engine. For the Wrangler 4xe, this means a 2.0-liter inline-4 engine, and a set of two electric motors. The overall output is 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque! When you opt for the Rubicon or new Willys trim, you’ll have up to 10 inches of ground clearance, which gives you the ability to ford up to 30 inches of water! Many people might think that water and electricity don’t mix, but Jeep thought ahead and waterproof-sealed all the electric components of the 4xe models. There’s also the Grand Cherokee 4xe, which is similarly equipped with the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, two electric motors, and 375 horsepower rating. 

As we mentioned above, certain Jeep 4xe trim levels offer advanced off-road features that give you the power you need to take on the trails. Let’s start with the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe’s Trailhawk trim. This model comes with features like all-terrain tires, blue front tow hooks, and a sporty black hood decal. It also has a disconnecting front sway bar, which increases front-wheel articulation when you need it! You can opt for the available Quadra-Drive II 4X4 system, which includes a rear electronic limited-slip differential, so that you can make the most of your torque and traction in inclement weather. The other major off-road model is the Jeep Wrangler 4xe Rubicon. This model includes features such as 33-inch all-terrain tires, off-road rock rails, skid plates, and Dana 44 heavy-duty axles! Other features include locking differentials in the front and rear, and a disconnecting sway bar.

For example, the Wrangler 4xe boasts over 20 miles of all-electric range, and 370 miles of total driving range! This means you can adventure for longer on a single charge, or tank of gas. Jeep has recently launched an initiative that aims to put 4xe charging stations at popular trailheads like California’s Rubicon Trail, encouraging the adventurous spirit of Jeep drivers. Plus, you can also easily install a home charging station, and charge your 4xe in just 2 hours using a Jeep Level II charging cable! As public charging stations become more and more accessible nationwide, charging your Jeep 4xe will only continue to get easier, giving you the freedom to chase your next off-road adventure.
